Uriah Heep/Thin Lizzy 11.10.08 in Rastatt-Konzertbericht

Hi hier ist mein Bericht, den ich im TIT-Forum geschrieben habe! Leider in Englisch, aber ich hoffe Ihr könnt ihn trotzdem lesen, da ich mich jetzt noch 'ne Stunde aufs Ohr haue, bevor ich ins Geschäft gehe (Pizza ausliefern)!

What a night! I was so happy seeing my favourite hardrock-band still in great form! They started the set with Wake the sleeper and during the concert they played the entire album + Stealin', Gypsy, Sunrise, Easy livin', Look at yourself and of cousre Lady in black as the last song! The whole band was fantastic, though I think the hall's acoustic is not the very best (but I am no technican)! Especially impressed I was about Russell and Bernie! Russell is not only the new drummer, he made the classics sound fresh and put his own stamp to them! Look at yourself almost sounded like a new song and I never heard a more powerfull version before! But for me the man of the evening was Bernie: It is really hard not to be infected by the positive energy he spreads! His voice was top and his communication with the fans is really outstanding! He made the stage his home! The highlight (those who where responible for the technique please forgive me) was when Mick's guitar stopped during Ghoast of the ocean and the band played the song with Mick on space-guitar! After the song they had a break to solve the problem and that was Bernie's biggest moment! He entertained the audience in a way that was very impressive! He had no problem with that and he talked and talked like it was rehearsed before! Also Mick took the situation with humour! A word to the new songs: For me Overload, Tears of the world, Book of lies and especially Shadow (a real killer live) worked best. Sadly songs like Between two worlds, Question, Come away Melinda, Dream on or Universal wheels didn't make it to the setlist , but eighter they can play the new songs or the old ones if they do not want to perform for 3 or more hours! Maybe during the tour they will exchange some of the songs. Light of a thousand stars, Heaven's rain and I know some will kill me now, What kind of god would be my suggestion for this!

All in all a great (and loud) concert! Thank you guys!

Let's talk about Thin Lizzy now! They played a very well received set and got the same applause like Heep! But Thin Lizzy play the same songs again and again! Did they forget they have so many other great ones? Impressive was to see how compact they sound! The double lead was brilliant and John Sykes did a great job on vocals! For my taste the songs sounded too much like heavy metal and lacked the bluesy feeling, as I am a fan of the Gorham/Robertson era and I sadly missed Robbo and Brian Downey on drums! Tommy Aldridge is an animal, but for Thin Lizzy not the perfect choice imo! Even on Dancing in the moonlight he hit his drums like it was a heavy metal song! A big minus from me goes to John Sykes! I can't understand why a man of his age has to put the word "fucking" in every second sentence he speaks! To me this is simply primitive! People liked his announcements anyway! I won't imagine what happened if Thin Lizzy would have had the same problems like Heep and John had to entertain the audience for a while like Bernie did!

Alles klar Chefin! Wird morgen erledigt (freier Tag)!

Was für ein toller Abend! Ich hab mich mächtig gefreut zu sehen, daß Uriah Heep immer noch absolut Spitze sind! Als Opener wurde Wake the sleeper gespielt und im Laufe des Konzerts präsentierten Uriah Heep ihr gesamtes neues Album + die Klassiker Stealin', Gypsy, Sunrise, Easy livin', Look at yourself und natürlich als Abschluß Lady in Black! Die Band war in prächtiger Spiellaune, doch fand ich die Akustik in der Halle eher mäßig, aber ich bin da kein Experte! Besonders beeindruckt war ich von Russell und Bernie! Russell ist nicht einfach nur ein neuer Schlagzeuger, er drückte den alten Klassikern seinen Stempel auf und lies sie in neuer Frische erblühen! Look at yourself hörte sich fast wie ein neuer Song an! Ich habe niemals zuvor eine so energiegeladene Version gehört!

Der Mann des Abends war für mich jedoch eindeutig Bernie! Es ist fast unmöglich nicht von seiner guten Laune angesteckt zu werden. Für ihn scheint die Bühne sein Wohnzimmer zu sein! Während Ghoast of the ocean setzte Mick's Gitarre aus und der Song wurde mit Luftgitarre fertiggespielt! Danach machte man sich daran das Problem zu beheben und Bernie unterhielt derweil das Publikum als wäre das alles einstudiert gewesen. Er entpuppte sich hierbei als wahrer Entertainer! Hut ab! Auch Mick verlor ob der Probleme nicht seinen Humor!

Ein Wort zu den neuen Songs: Für mich kamen Overload, Tears of the world, Book of lies und besonders Shadow (ein echter Hammer) am besten rüber. Aufgrund daß das komplette Wake the sleeper-Album gespielt wurde, blieben leider Songs wie Between two worlds, Come away Melinda, Question, Universal wheels oder Dream on auf der Strecke! Man kann halt nicht alles auf einmal haben! Vielleicht ersetzen Heep ja noch im Laufe der Tournee den einen oder anderen neuen Song! Light of a thousand stars, Heaven's rain oder auch What kind of god (bitte killt mich jetzt nicht) wären hiefür meine Vorschläge!

Nun zu Thin Lizzy, die als erste auf die Bühne kamen: TL spielten ein Set, daß vom Publikum begeistert aufgenommen wurde und erhielten dafür genausoviel Applaus wie Heep! Nur: Warum müssen TL seit ihrem Comback immer und immer wieder die gleichen Songs spielen, obwohl sie doch so ein riesiges Repertoire haben! Beeindruckend war auf alle Fälle der kompakte, druckvolle Sound und die Doppel Lead-Gitarre war einfach nur genial, obwohl das ganze für meinen Geschmack etwas zu heavy gespielt wurde und ich die bluesigen Einflüsse aus der früheren Robertson/Gorham Ära etwas vermisst habe! John Sykes Gesang war ebenfalls spitze! Jedoch ist für mich ein Tommy Aldridge an den Drums nicht unbedingt die Idealbesetzung für Thin Lizzy! Er ist zwar ein Tier hinter seiner Schießbude, doch trommelte er selbst bei Dancing in the moonlight so, als wäre es eine Heavy Metal Nummer! Schade daß Brian Downey nicht mehr mit an Bord ist! Ein großes Minus gab es von mir allerdings für die dümmlichen Ansagen von John Sykes (vom Publikum euphorisch aufgenommen), der in jedem zweiten Satz glaubte, das Wort "Fucking" benutzen zu müssen! Nicht auszudenken er hätte das Publikum, so wie Bernie danach, für einige Minuten unterhalten müssen!

Sie wurden wohl zwischen Saarbrücken und Nürnberg von der Polizei regulär überprüft und mussten jede Menge Autogramme dabei geben.

We have just been pulled over by the police on a routine check stop and they were all Heep fans so a couple of signed pictures and we are on our way-how cool is that!
